PLAINFIELD, IL – A Plainfield mother was arrested Tuesday after allegedly crashing her car into three residential mailboxes and leaving the scene with her five young children in tow.

Latoya Harrison, 36, was driving a Chevrolet Venture northbound in the 2400 block of Ruth Fitzgerald Drive when the vehicle left the roadway and struck the mailboxes on the east side of the street.

After the accident, Harrison allegedly fled the scene with her five children, all of whom were passengers in the vehicle. Police officers caught up with Harrison and the children while they were walking in the 2700 block of Ruth Fitzgerald Drive. Harrison exhibited signs of possible alcohol impairment and refused to perform field sobriety tests.

Harrison was subsequently arrested and charged with DUI and Endangering the Life or Health of a Child (5 Counts). She was processed and released on a cash bond, and her driver’s license was also suspended.

A relative of Harrison took custody of the children, who were all between the ages of two and seven. Thankfully, no one was injured in the crash, and the mailboxes were the only property damage.
