EAST CHICAGO, IN – Indiana Department of Natural Resources is investigating the death of a teen following an incident unfolded near Jeorse Park in East Chicago, a juvenile lost their life in the waters of Lake Michigan Sunday.
According to reports it happened at 4:20 p.m. Monday when witnesses at the scene recounted a grim sequence of events: a group of young people defying warnings from East Chicago Marina staff, dared to jump off the breakwall into Lake Michigan’s restless waters. Among them, a 14-year-old boy plunged into the lake but soon found himself in a perilous situation, struggling against the waves before vanishing beneath the surface.
Rescue efforts were swiftly launched, with emergency personnel rushing to the breakwall area in response to the alarming distress call. Tragically, despite their best efforts, the young boy’s life could not be saved. He was transported to St. Catherine Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
