Lemont, IL – Lemont residents have approved a $46 million bond to upgrade the facilities and services of the Lemont Fire Protection District. Unofficial results show that 61.22% of voters supported the measure, exceeding the required 50% majority.
The bond will fund critical projects aimed at enhancing emergency response and firefighter safety. Planned improvements include relocating fire stations to reduce response times and providing additional space to separate gear storage, lowering exposure to harmful carcinogens. The fire district will also add space for modern emergency vehicles and equipment, ensuring that firefighters are better equipped to handle emergencies.
Other enhancements include meeting the nationally recommended firefighter-to-paramedic ratio and establishing advanced training facilities. Fire Chief Daniel Tasso noted that these updates will help the district meet rising safety standards and better serve the community.
With this funding, Lemont’s fire department aims to improve its emergency readiness, ensuring rapid response times and well-prepared first responders.
