Las Vegas Weather Alert: Up to 16 Inches of Snow in Spring Mountains

Las Vegas, NV – A significant winter storm is set to impact parts of Nevada and Eastern California, bringing heavy snow and strong winds through Friday morning.

According to the National Weather Service, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect for the Eastern Sierra Slopes, Lincoln County, and the Spring Mountains-Red Rock Canyon areas. The storm is expected to bring snow accumulations ranging from 3 to 16 inches, depending on elevation, with wind gusts up to 60 mph.

In the Eastern Sierra Slopes, including Aspendell and Whitney Portal, snowfall will range from 4 to 8 inches, with gusty winds potentially downing tree branches and powerlines. The warning remains active from 4 a.m. Wednesday to 4 p.m. Thursday.

In Lincoln County, including Caliente, Pioche, and Alamo, 3 to 6 inches of snow is expected, with higher amounts possible above 7,000 feet. The storm will impact travel, particularly on Highway 93 north of Pioche, from 4 p.m. Wednesday to 10 a.m. Friday.

The Spring Mountains and Red Rock Canyon will see the heaviest snowfall, with up to 16 inches possible above 9,000 feet. Winds could reach 60 mph, making travel treacherous from Wednesday evening through Friday morning.

Motorists are urged to exercise caution, as travel may become difficult to impossible in affected areas. Officials recommend keeping an emergency kit, including food, water, and a flashlight, in vehicles. For road conditions, travelers can call 511 or 1-800-427-7623 in California.
