San Bernardino, CA – A significant winter storm is set to impact the San Bernardino and Riverside County mountains starting Wednesday evening, bringing heavy snow and strong winds that could make travel hazardous through Friday morning.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in San Diego, a Winter Storm Warning is in effect from 7 p.m. Wednesday until 10 a.m. Friday. The storm is expected to bring 2 to 4 inches of snow between 4,000 and 5,000 feet, while elevations above 5,000 feet could see 6 to 12 inches or more. In Riverside County, snowfall accumulations will range from 2 to 4 inches near 5,000 feet and up to 8 inches or more above 6,000 feet.
Winds will also be a concern, with gusts reaching up to 55 mph in the San Bernardino County mountains and up to 60 mph in the Riverside County mountains. These conditions could lead to tree damage and power outages, in addition to dangerous road conditions.
Commuters should expect delays and difficult driving conditions, especially during the Thursday morning and evening commutes. Authorities urge travelers to carry emergency supplies, including a flashlight, food, and water, in case of road closures or extended delays.
