Roswell, NM – A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for eastern New Mexico and will remain in effect until 10 p.m. MDT on Saturday. The National Weather Service warns that conditions are favorable for severe storms capable of producing large hail, damaging winds, and possibly a tornado.
According to the NWS Storm Prediction Center, storms are expected to develop across a wide north-south area of eastern New Mexico, with hail potentially reaching 2.5 inches in diameter. Wind gusts could reach up to 65 mph.
Residents in the watch area should stay alert and monitor weather updates throughout the evening. Areas around Roswell and northward are at particular risk. While not all thunderstorms will reach severe levels, the risk for hail and damaging winds remains significant.
