La Porte, IN – New Prairie Middle School increased security Friday morning following reports of a potential threat. Students were taken to the gym as their backpacks were searched by administrators and School Resource Officers (SROs).
According to a statement by New Prairie United School Corporation Superintendent Paul White, there was no confirmed threat, but multiple SROs will remain on-site throughout the day. White said the school learned about a rumor that circulated on social media late Thursday, coinciding with Friday the 13th.
White also confirmed students may have been reacting to posts about similar threats at other area schools. La Porte County Sheriff’s deputies are working closely with the school administration to ensure safety while interviews with students continue.
Parents and guardians have been notified, and student safety remains the top priority.
