Lansing Fire Department Secures $4.3 Million FEMA Grant for Staffing Expansion

Lansing, MI — The Lansing Fire Department has been awarded a 2023 FEMA SAFER grant totaling $4,358,166. This substantial funding will support staffing expansion as part of the department’s 2024-2029 Strategic Plan. Over the next three years, the grant will help fill approximately 15 positions annually.

According to a statement from the Lansing Fire Department, the award enables the department to address known attrition rates and manage an increasing call volume. The Strategic Plan played a major role in securing the funding. With the additional staffing, the department aims to improve operational efficiency and response times.
