Marquette, MI – A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for Menominee County, with widespread snow hitting the Upper Peninsula this afternoon. Up to 8 inches of Lake Michigan-enhanced snow is expected through Friday morning, prompting hazardous travel conditions along key routes, including US-41.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the storm will bring heavy snowfall beginning tonight, with peak accumulations expected by Friday morning. Drivers should prepare for slick roads, reduced visibility, and delays on US-41 and US-2. Officials urge residents to avoid unnecessary travel and stay updated on weather alerts.
Additional snow showers are likely Friday and into the weekend, especially in the Keweenaw Peninsula, where lake-effect snow could bring several more inches. High temperatures will remain in the low to mid-20s, with wind chills making it feel significantly colder.
The extended forecast indicates light snow on Saturday, with Sunday offering a break as partly sunny skies return. However, snowfall may resume Monday as another system approaches the area. Low temperatures will range between 10 and 20 degrees, ensuring icy conditions linger into next week.
Residents are advised to clear walkways, ensure vehicles are winter-ready, and stay tuned to updates from NWS Marquette. Snowplows will be active, particularly on major highways, but secondary roads may remain snow-covered.
Stay safe by limiting travel during peak snowfall periods, dressing warmly, and allowing extra time for commutes. Monitor the latest updates on road closures and delays via the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT).
