Baltimore, MD – Maryland residents should prepare for a messy Friday as rain and snow are forecasted to return to the area. A strong low-pressure system will bring rain and snow starting Friday afternoon, followed by sharply colder temperatures through the weekend.
According to the National Weather Service, rain may turn into snow as early as Friday evening, impacting areas east of the mountains and possibly disrupting evening commutes. Accumulations will likely remain light near the city but could be higher in the surrounding mountains. Temperatures will drop into the teens by Friday night, and gusty northwest winds are expected to make conditions feel even colder.
Saturday will remain dry but frigid, with highs barely reaching 38 degrees in Baltimore. Overnight lows will plummet into the low 20s, prompting frost and freeze risks across the region. Sunday will bring more sunshine, but temperatures will remain well below average, with highs around 31 degrees.
Travelers on major roads such as Interstate 95 and U.S. Route 40 should drive cautiously on Friday and Saturday mornings, especially in areas prone to icing. The Baltimore Department of Public Works advises residents to insulate outdoor pipes and prepare for potentially slick sidewalks.
Looking ahead, Monday will remain cold but clear, with slightly warmer highs around 35 degrees. A warming trend is expected by midweek, but another chance of rain and snow could impact holiday travel on Christmas Eve.
Residents are encouraged to monitor weather updates and take precautions for the bitter cold expected this weekend.
