Gaylord, MI – Snow showers and gusty winds are creating hazardous travel conditions in northern Michigan today as a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until noon. Residents and travelers along key routes like M-32 and US-31 should prepare for slippery roads and reduced visibility through the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service, areas in Otsego, Antrim, and Charlevoix counties could see an additional 1 to 3 inches of snow. Wind gusts up to 35 mph will exacerbate conditions, particularly on open roads. Drivers are urged to slow down and exercise caution as icy patches are likely to form overnight.

The forecast shows steady snow showers continuing Saturday, with temperatures remaining near 16°F. Wind chill values will drop as low as -2°F, making outdoor activities potentially dangerous. By Sunday, snowfall will taper off, with a 40% chance of lingering snow showers. Highs will reach only 18°F, with gusts decreasing to 10 mph.

Looking ahead to next week, Monday and Tuesday will remain mostly cloudy, with temperatures gradually rising to around 20°F. Another round of light snow showers may return Tuesday night into Wednesday.

Residents are encouraged to monitor weather updates and avoid unnecessary travel until conditions improve. Always keep an emergency kit in vehicles and dress in layers to guard against extreme cold.
