Fort Wayne, IN – A wave of sharply colder weather is sweeping into Indiana today, bringing potential snow showers and dangerously low wind chills. Temperatures are expected to plunge by Wednesday night, with wind chill values near or below zero in some areas.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), highs today will reach 46°F before colder air arrives this evening, accompanied by gusty northwest winds up to 15 mph. Snow showers are likely to develop Wednesday, with accumulations of 1 to 3 inches possible in lake-effect areas north of the Toll Road. Wind gusts may reach 25 mph, further intensifying the cold.

Wednesday night could see temperatures plummet to 14°F, with wind chills as low as -5°F. Residents near US-30 and other major roadways should plan for reduced visibility during snow showers and blowing snow. Travel is likely to become hazardous, particularly during the evening commute on Wednesday.

Thursday will remain cold but dry, with a high near 32°F and sunny skies. Winds will remain brisk, adding to the chill. By Friday, temperatures will begin to rebound slightly, reaching highs in the mid-30s, with a chance of rain and snow mix Friday night into Saturday.

Residents should bundle up, check road conditions, and ensure vehicles are prepared for winter travel. Those in lake-effect zones should monitor updated forecasts closely for snow accumulation totals.
