Lake County, IL – A Zion man was arrested Friday in connection with an alleged armed robbery at a Beach Park fast-food restaurant, with the Lake County Sheriff’s K-9 unit playing a key role in the investigation.

Shane L. Lones, 41, of the 1800 block of Jethro Avenue, was allegedly identified as the suspect after detectives used surveillance footage and license plate camera data to trace the vehicle involved.

The robbery reportedly occurred Thursday around 7:35 p.m. at a fast-food location in the 38900 block of North Lewis Avenue. A man reportedly entered the restaurant wearing black clothing and a surgical mask, then pulled a knife and demanded money. He fled on foot. No injuries were reported.

A Sheriff’s K-9 unit tracked the suspect’s scent to a nearby parking lot, suggesting he left in a vehicle. Investigators then used Flock camera data to identify a vehicle linked to Lones.

Zion Police allegedly found Lones in the vehicle near his home and took him into custody. A search of his vehicle and apartment uncovered clothing matching that worn during the robbery.

Lones is charged with one count of armed robbery and remains in custody pending a Monday detention hearing.
