Lake Zurich, IL – The Lake Zurich Fire Rescue Department is spreading awareness during National Lead Poisoning Prevention Week, from October 20 to 26. The campaign highlights the dangers of lead exposure, particularly in homes built before 1978. Children under six are at high risk for developmental delays due to lead exposure.

According to the Lake County Health Department, no safe levels of lead exist in the blood. Residents are encouraged to take precautions, including testing homes for lead-based paint and old products. Other sources of lead include imported toys and certain home goods.

Parents are urged to test their children for lead and use lead-check kits for household surfaces. Regular handwashing and cleaning can reduce exposure. For more information, residents can contact the Lake County Health Department at (847) 377-8010.
