Lake County, IN: No Signs of Trauma in Death of Hobart Man Found at Park Monday

Hobart, IN – A 25-year-old man was found dead Monday night at Jerry Pavese Park in Hobart, with preliminary findings indicating no signs of trauma or foul play.

According to the Lake County Coroner’s Office, officials were dispatched at 10:01 p.m. on March 24 to the park located at 500 S. Lake Park Ave. The decedent, identified by family at the scene as Nathaniel Betz, was pronounced dead at 10:31 p.m. by a coroner’s investigator.

A forensic autopsy was completed Tuesday, March 25, at the Lake County Forensic Center in Crown Point. Early results showed no physical injuries or evidence of foul play, though the official cause and manner of death remain pending.

Betz was a resident of the 900 block of State Street in Hobart. Emergency response included the Hobart Police Department, Hobart Fire Rescue, and the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.

Authorities have not released further details on circumstances surrounding the death. Toxicology results are expected in the coming weeks.
