Lake Villa, IL – A 51-year-old man from unincorporated Lake Villa was arrested after a serious motorcycle crash that critically injured his passenger on Saturday evening.

According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred at approximately 8:30 p.m. near Route 59 and Diemer Street in unincorporated Antioch. Gregory Shaer, the operator of the motorcycle, allegedly sideswiped a GMC Acadia while driving southbound. The impact caused him to lose control of his Harley-Davidson, throwing his 43-year-old passenger onto the roadway. She suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital.

Deputies at the scene detected signs of alcohol impairment from Shaer. Despite his refusal to provide breath, blood, or urine samples, a search warrant allowed deputies to obtain the necessary evidence. Shaer now faces charges, including Aggravated DUI resulting in great bodily harm, a Class 4 felony.

Shaer remains in custody, awaiting his first court appearance. The investigation continues, with additional charges possible.
