Highland, IN – A Gary man was arrested Tuesday after Highland police connected him to multiple package thefts. Officers found his vehicle packed with stolen goods.
According to Highland Police, officers responded to a report of theft on the 2600 block of Eder Street at 2:12 p.m. The victim reported a package stolen moments after receiving a Ring doorbell alert. Another Ring notification reportedly showed a man in black clothing stealing a package and fleeing in a dark-colored Ford Fusion.
As officers investigated, a second theft report came in. Witnesses described a dark-colored Ford 4-door vehicle with an “In God We Trust” plate. Police intercepted the Ford near Kennedy Avenue and Ross Street. Officers stopped the vehicle and identified the driver as a 30-year-old man from Gary, IN.
Police reportedly found the vehicle filled with packages. Officers observed parcels stacked on the front passenger seat and packed to the roof in the back. The suspect claimed he delivered packages as part of a job but failed to provide documentation.
The original reporting party identified the suspect as the man seen stealing packages on Ring video. Police took him into custody and impounded the vehicle.
Authorities continue investigating the thefts and encourage victims to contact the Highland Police Department to identify their missing packages. Charges remain pending as police process the recovered goods.
