Gurnee, IL – A Gurnee man was allegedly apprehended early Saturday after Lake County sheriff’s deputies responded to a shots fired call in unincorporated Gurnee, which led authorities to seize significant quantities of drugs from the home.
According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, deputies and the Sheriff’s Tactical Response Team arrived at a residence in the 18600 block of Highfield Drive at approximately 2:15 a.m. after a 911 caller reported seeing a man and woman allegedly firing shots from their yard. Deputies reportedly found several discharged firearm rounds in the yard and encountered Nazareth T. Collins, 34, at the front door of the home.
Authorities stated that Collins and others inside the residence allegedly refused requests to search the property. Believing firearms could still be inside, deputies coordinated with the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office to obtain a search warrant, which was approved and signed at about 6:20 a.m.
Sheriff’s deputies then executed the search warrant and allegedly discovered over 500 grams of cocaine, more than 40 grams of MDMA pills, over 1,400 grams of cannabis, more than 35 grams of psilocybin mushrooms, and alprazolam pills in Collins’ bedroom. However, the firearms reportedly seen earlier were not located and are believed to have been removed before law enforcement arrived.
According to the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office, Collins faces multiple charges, including unlawful possession with intent to deliver cocaine, MDMA, psilocybin, cannabis, and alprazolam. He remains in custody pending an initial court appearance, with further charges possible related to the alleged discharge of firearms.
All defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
