Wadsworth, IL – Authorities are investigating a fatal hit-and-run crash that occurred overnight in Wadsworth. Deputies responded to Dilleys Road at 11:45 p.m. on Wednesday after receiving reports of a “person down.” Upon arrival, they found an adult woman dead at the scene, showing trauma consistent with being struck by a vehicle.
According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, investigators believe the woman was riding a bicycle northbound on Dilleys Road when a northbound GMC SUV struck her from behind. She was thrown from the bike, and the SUV driver fled. Moments later, a Hyundai Elantra, driven by a 23-year-old Waukegan man, struck her again. The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with police.
Witnesses reported seeing the GMC dragging a bicycle along Wadsworth Road. The suspect’s vehicle was located in Winthrop Harbor. Investigators seized the SUV and identified the driver, a 32-year-old Winthrop Harbor man.
The Lake County Coroner’s Office is working to identify the victim. Authorities are pursuing criminal charges against the SUV driver.
