La Porte, IN — The La Porte County Sheriff’s Office has bolstered its partnership with local school districts to address recent school threats. Deputies now serve as full-time and part-time School Resource Officers (SROs) in multiple school corporations, including La Porte Community, New Prairie, and Tri-Township schools.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, a zero-tolerance policy for threats is now in place. Any individual making threats, even as a joke, will face severe consequences, including criminal charges or expulsion. “We will not tolerate anyone spreading or making school-related threats,” Sheriff Ronald Heeg stated.

The Sheriff’s Office advises parents to actively monitor their children’s social media. Tips include setting privacy controls and discussing the consequences of online behavior.

Parents are encouraged to report threats to school officials or the Sheriff’s Office. Emergencies should be reported by calling 911.
