Danville, IL – A convicted felon has been sentenced to eight years in prison for unlawful possession of a weapon. On September 13, Deponshia Davis, formerly of Danville, pleaded guilty to the charge, a Class 2 felony.
According to the Vermilion County State’s Attorney’s Office, Davis was involved in a shooting on September 12, 2023. Danville Police responded to a call on Edgewood Drive, where they found a victim shot in the abdomen. Investigators reviewed security footage that showed an altercation between Davis and the victim. During the fight, Davis allegedly shot the victim before fleeing.
Further investigation identified Davis as the shooter. Due to his prior felony convictions, he was prohibited by law from possessing a firearm. After pleading guilty, Judge Mark S. Goodwin sentenced Davis to eight years in the Illinois Department of Corrections, along with one year of supervised release.
Vermilion County State’s Attorney Jacqueline Lacy praised the police for their prompt response and thorough investigation.
