Jackson, KY – The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for much of eastern Kentucky, in effect until 7 p.m. EST Tuesday. Strong winds and low humidity pose a heightened fire risk across multiple counties.

According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, sustained south winds of 10 to 20 mph, with gusts reaching 45 mph, combined with humidity as low as 20%, create critical fire weather conditions. Temperatures are expected to reach 72°F, further increasing the risk of rapid fire spread.

Affected areas include Fleming, Montgomery, Bath, Rowan, Estill, Powell, Menifee, Rockcastle, Jackson, Pulaski, Laurel, Wayne, McCreary, Whitley, Knox, Bell, Harlan, Morgan, Wolfe, Magoffin, Lee, Breathitt, Knott, Owsley, Perry, Clay, Leslie, and Letcher counties.

Safety Precautions:

• Properly discard cigarettes and flammable materials.

• Report any wildfires immediately to local authorities.
