Louisville, KY – Residents across Louisville and central Kentucky are bracing for dangerously cold weather as a Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect through Wednesday morning. Sub-zero wind chills as low as -10 degrees are expected overnight, creating hazardous conditions for outdoor activity.

According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, temperatures will peak today in the mid-teens with scattered flurries before dropping to 2°F overnight. The advisory covers much of south-central Indiana and central Kentucky, warning of hypothermia risks for those exposed to prolonged cold. Wind chill values will continue to impact the region through Wednesday morning before slight moderation midweek.

Drivers are urged to exercise caution on roadways, including major routes like I-64 and I-65, where icy patches are possible. Officials recommend keeping an emergency kit in your vehicle and avoiding unnecessary travel during the coldest periods.

Wednesday’s forecast calls for partly sunny skies with a high near 27°F, while wind chills will remain near or below zero. By Thursday, isolated flurries may return as highs climb to the low 30s. A more significant warm-up is expected this weekend, with temperatures reaching 41°F by Saturday.

Residents are encouraged to check on elderly neighbors, avoid using outdoor heating devices indoors, and ensure pets are sheltered. Updates are available through NOAA Weather Radio or the NWS website.
