Wichita, KS – Bone-chilling wind chills as low as -21 degrees are sweeping across Central Kansas, prompting a Cold Weather Advisory in the region. Residents are urged to limit outdoor exposure and wear multiple layers to avoid frostbite, which can develop in just 30 minutes on exposed skin.
According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, the advisory remains in effect until noon Tuesday, with bitter wind chills common throughout the morning. Temperatures in Wichita currently hover at -6°F, with wind chill values ranging between -10°F and -20°F. Forecasters warn of dangerous conditions for anyone traveling or working outdoors.
The frigid conditions are expected to ease slightly by Wednesday, with sunny skies and highs near 38°F. Thursday and Friday bring mostly sunny weather and gradual warming, with highs reaching the low 40s by week’s end. However, overnight lows will remain bitter, dropping into the teens and twenties.
Road conditions may be impacted, especially for those commuting along major routes such as I-35 and U.S. 400. Drivers should ensure vehicles are winter-ready and pack emergency supplies, including blankets and water, in case of delays.
