Byron Center, MI – The Kent County Sheriff’s Office is investigating reports of a school threat involving Byron Center and East Kentwood Schools. This came after a football game last Friday between the two schools.

During the game, school resource officers were informed about a Byron Center student carrying a pocket knife. Officers located the student and confiscated the knife, determining there was no intent to harm anyone. Despite the student posing no immediate threat, rumors spread across social media, particularly on Snapchat, suggesting a potential act of violence.

According to the Kent County Sheriff’s Office, these rumors fueled panic within the community. However, their investigation revealed that the claims were baseless, originating from speculation shared online. Officers emphasized the importance of taking all threats seriously but noted the incident stemmed from misinformation.

Uniformed deputies continue to monitor school events to ensure community safety. The Sheriff’s Office encourages anyone with concerns to come forward, allowing authorities to conduct thorough investigations.
