Plano, IL – A home invasion suspect died following a police chase and officer-involved shooting near Route 34 on Friday. The incident began when Kendall County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of shots fired at a residence in the 3800 block of Pratt Court around 6:45 PM.

A vehicle linked to the home invasion was located, but the driver refused to stop, leading police on a chase involving multiple agencies. Meanwhile, a 70-year-old victim, Russell Novak, was found at the Pratt Court address with gunshot wounds and later pronounced dead.

The pursuit ended near Route 34 and Eola Road, where the suspect exited the vehicle armed. Officers shot the suspect after they pointed a weapon at law enforcement. The suspect was transported to the hospital but was pronounced dead.

”I am extremely proud of the way my deputies and the officers from the surrounding law enforcement agencies responded during this incident,” Sheriff Dwight Baird said in a press release. “I am grateful they responded swiftly, putting themselves in harm’s way, to safeguard our community.”

Sheriff Baird has requested an independent investigation by the Illinois State Police. No officers were injured during the incident, and there is no ongoing threat to the public. The investigation continues.
