Edwardsburg, MI – A bicyclist died Friday night after being struck by a vehicle on U.S. 12 near Garver Lake Road. The incident occurred just before 9 p.m., involving an eastbound vehicle and a man riding his bicycle along the road.

Police identified the victim as 30-year-old Austin Carter of Elkhart. Investigators believe Carter was riding eastbound in the roadway when he was struck by a vehicle driven by a 74-year-old Edwardsburg man.

According to Edwardsburg police, Carter wore dark clothing and lacked reflective lights on his bicycle. This may have contributed to his visibility being reduced to drivers at night.

First responders took Carter by ambulance to Elkhart Memorial Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Authorities are still investigating the cause of the crash, but no charges have been filed.
