Dodge City, KS – Gusty northwest winds and blowing dust will dominate the weather today, potentially causing hazardous travel conditions along U.S. Route 50 and surrounding areas. Temperatures are expected to reach a high of 58°F, but strong winds gusting up to 50 mph will make outdoor activities challenging.

According to the National Weather Service, the strongest winds will occur in the afternoon, with sustained speeds of 27 to 37 mph. Blowing dust could reduce visibility, particularly in open areas, posing risks for drivers. Motorists are urged to exercise caution, secure lightweight objects, and limit travel on exposed roadways when possible.

The gusty conditions will ease overnight, giving way to clearer skies and a calmer Tuesday. Highs on New Year’s Eve will reach 43°F, with a light northwest breeze. Wednesday, New Year’s Day, will see sunny skies and a high of 44°F, making it a crisp but pleasant start to 2025.

Looking ahead, a cold front will bring colder temperatures on Thursday and Friday, with lows dropping into the teens. Winds will calm by midweek, offering a quieter weather pattern for the start of January.

Residents should monitor updates for potential dust-related warnings and prepare for cooler weather later this week.
