Memphis, TN — Travelers across the Memphis area should prepare for hazardous conditions tonight as dense fog is expected to develop across the region, particularly near I-40 and areas surrounding the Arkansas Delta. The National Weather Service warns that visibility may drop to a quarter mile or less in affected areas, creating challenges for drivers heading into Tuesday morning.

According to the US National Weather Service in Memphis, the most likely area for fog includes portions of northeast Arkansas, northwestern Mississippi, and western Tennessee. The advisory recommends reducing speed, avoiding high beams, and using fog lights to enhance visibility. If driving tonight, allow extra time for travel and leave ample distance between vehicles to avoid collisions.

Temperatures will dip to the mid-40s overnight with calm winds, creating favorable conditions for fog formation. Tuesday’s forecast brings increasing clouds with a high of 52°F and a brisk northwest wind up to 15 mph. New Year’s Day is expected to be sunny but cooler, with highs reaching 46°F and light winds.

Looking ahead, the Mid-South will experience mostly clear conditions through Thursday, with temperatures remaining in the upper 40s during the day and mid-30s at night. A slight chance of rain returns Saturday evening.

Drivers are urged to stay informed by checking local weather updates and exercising caution during foggy conditions.
