Cincinnati, OH – A rainfall record dating back to 1910 was shattered Sunday as Cincinnati logged 1.16 inches of rain, surpassing the previous mark of 1.09 inches. The record-breaking rainfall comes just days before Ohio braces for a mix of rain and snow on New Year’s Day.

According to the National Weather Service, rain will taper off Monday, but precipitation is expected to return Tuesday, bringing another wet day for Ohioans. By New Year’s Eve night, temperatures will drop, setting the stage for a wintry mix. Snow showers are possible into Wednesday morning, potentially creating slick travel conditions across the region, including major roadways like I-75 and I-71.

Daytime highs on New Year’s Day are forecast to reach only 37°F, with a 20% chance of snow lingering through the evening. Winds could add to the chill, with gusts up to 24 mph expected. By midweek, colder air will dominate, with lows dipping into the low 20s by Wednesday night.

Residents planning holiday travel or outdoor activities should monitor local weather updates and prepare for shifting road conditions. Officials recommend allowing extra travel time and keeping emergency supplies in vehicles.
