Wichita, KS – Dangerous heat will persist across Kansas through next week, with heat indices climbing up to 110 degrees. The National Weather Service in Wichita warns that the extreme temperatures will remain in the area through Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service, areas including Salina, Hutchinson, and Coffeyville will experience the highest heat indices, peaking at 112 degrees in Salina on Wednesday. The intense heat will continue on Thursday, with many cities seeing indices well above 105 degrees. Residents are urged to take precautions, stay hydrated, and avoid prolonged exposure to the sun.

Chances for a few showers and storms will return to southeast Kansas today and Saturday, while the rest of the area should remain dry. According to the latest five-day forecast, high temperatures will range from 90 to 97 degrees today, with a slight dip on Saturday to highs between 87 and 95 degrees.

Sunday through Tuesday will see a return of dangerously hot temperatures, with highs reaching up to 104 degrees on Monday. Best chances for rain and storms will be Sunday night and Monday night, particularly in north and east Kansas. The heat is expected to intensify again on Tuesday and Wednesday, with temperatures soaring to 107 degrees.

The National Weather Service advises residents to check on vulnerable populations, ensure pets have adequate water and shade, and limit strenuous activities during the hottest parts of the day. With the forecast predicting continued extreme heat, Kansans should remain vigilant and prepared for the sweltering days ahead.
