Dodge City, Kansas – Overnight storms are expected to intensify across central and western Kansas, with a Severe Thunderstorm Watch remaining in effect until 7 a.m. CDT Tuesday for more than 50 counties, including Ellis, Saline, and Shawnee.

According to the National Weather Service in Goodland, issued by the Dodge City office, counties such as Gove, Logan, and Finney remain under active watch conditions. Residents in cities like Oakley, Quinter, and Salina could face damaging winds, large hail, and frequent lightning through the early morning hours.

Travelers on I-70 and U.S. 83 are urged to use caution, especially near Oakley and Grainfield, where storms may impact visibility and cause hazardous driving conditions. Emergency managers advise staying indoors during lightning and securing outdoor items that could become projectiles in gusty winds.

Power outages and downed tree limbs are possible as the storms move eastward. While this system is typical for late June, the widespread coverage and strength of these storms make it a significant overnight threat.

Additional alerts or warnings could be issued as the system evolves. Stay tuned to local emergency services and NOAA Weather Radio for real-time updates.
