Kansas City, Missouri – Moderate flooding is expected along the Marais Des Cygnes River near Trading Post, with water levels forecast to crest at 30.2 feet by Saturday afternoon, potentially flooding Stateline Road and low-lying farmland through early Monday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Kansas City, the river is expected to rise above the 27.0-foot flood stage late Thursday morning. As of 3 p.m. Wednesday, the water level stood at 25.3 feet. Floodwaters are projected to peak nearly three feet above flood stage before receding below dangerous levels by early Sunday.

Residents in Bates County, Missouri, and Linn County, Kansas, should prepare for possible road closures and avoid travel on Stateline Road north of the river gauge, which is likely to flood if levels surpass 29.0 feet. Farmers and landowners should take steps to protect livestock and equipment in low-lying areas.

Drivers are urged to avoid flooded roads, as most flood-related deaths occur in vehicles. Emergency officials recommend having alternate routes planned and staying updated.

Flood warnings remain in effect until early Monday. Further advisories may be issued if conditions worsen.
