Boonville, Missouri – U Highway southeast of Boonville may be underwater tonight as Petite Saline Creek continues to rise, triggering a Flood Warning that remains in effect through early Friday.
According to the National Weather Service in Kansas City, the creek measured 18.0 feet at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday—already above the 16.0-foot flood stage. It’s forecast to crest at 18.2 feet by Wednesday evening, then gradually fall below flood stage by Thursday afternoon.
Low-lying woodlands and farmland near the creek are experiencing minor flooding. If water levels rise further, U Highway—located roughly 4 miles southeast of Boonville—could see floodwaters by late Wednesday. Residents in Cooper County are urged to avoid the area and never drive across water-covered roads.
The flooding comes after overnight rains pushed several small streams beyond capacity in central Missouri. Drivers should use alternate routes and keep emergency supplies on hand. Warnings will remain active until water recedes.
