Kankakee, IL – The Kankakee Area YMCA has appointed John Alexander as its interim Chief Executive Officer. Alexander steps in as the Board of Directors begins its search for a permanent CEO. He brings years of experience with YMCA organizations across the country.
A native of Potomac, Illinois, Alexander is a graduate of Olivet Nazarene University. His career with the YMCA started as a volunteer coach and expanded to leadership roles. In 2001, he became the CEO of the Danville, IL Family YMCA. He later served as Resource Director for Central and Southern Illinois, working with 24 YMCA branches.
According to the Kankakee Area YMCA, Alexander also served as CEO of the Owensboro, KY Family YMCA before retiring in September 2023. He now steps in to lead the Kankakee branch, which has been a community cornerstone since 1894.
Alexander expressed his dedication to continuing the Y’s mission of building healthy spirits, minds, and bodies. He and his wife Margie, a resident of Terre Haute, IN, are proud parents of five children and 11 grandchildren.
The Kankakee YMCA serves over 8,000 members, providing programs in sports, childcare, and health.
