Kankakee, IL – Chess enthusiasts in Kankakee have an exciting opportunity to test their skills and enjoy competitive play. The Kankakee Public Library is launching a new season of its regular chess league on Saturday, January 20th, starting at 10:00 a.m. This event promises to be a haven for both seasoned players and novices alike, fostering a spirited chess community.

According to the event organizers, participants are required to pay a one-time entry fee of $30. The league boasts attractive cash prizes, with $450 for the first-place winner, $280 for second place, and $170 for third place, based on a minimum of 24 entries. To join the league, interested players should call 815-939-4564 to reserve their spot and receive the full schedule. The playoffs are set for May 4th, June 1st, 8th, 15th, and 22nd, featuring 30-minute time controls and 30-second increments. Competitors are encouraged to bring their own boards and chess clocks.

Additionally, a 3+2 speed chess side league is also available for a $5 entry fee, offering prizes of $110 and $70 for first and second places, respectively.
