Kankakee County, IL – Tornadoes Confirmed in Peotone, Manteno, and Grant Park Monday

Peotone, IL – The recent 48-hour storm system that swept through the Midwest has been confirmed to have produced tornadoes in Peotone, Manteno, and Grant Park. The National Weather Service (NWS) provided these updates following detailed damage assessments.

According to the NWS, Peotone experienced an EF-0 tornado on July 15th, between 9:41 PM and 9:46 PM CDT. This tornado had estimated peak winds of 85 mph, a path length of 6.4 miles, and a maximum width of 100 yards. No injuries or deaths were reported.

In Manteno, an EF-0 tornado was confirmed during the same storm system. Occurring between 9:36 PM and 9:45 PM CDT, this tornado had peak winds of 80 mph, a path length of 12.3 miles, and a maximum width of 250 yards. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries or deaths.

Grant Park also experienced an EF-1 tornado on July 15th, between 9:51 PM and 9:53 PM CDT. This tornado had estimated peak winds of 90 mph, a path length of 2.6 miles, and a maximum width of 100 yards. No injuries or deaths were reported in this area either.

These tornadoes were part of a larger weather event that resulted in a total of 28 tornadoes across the region. The NWS continues to analyze the impacts of the storm and will provide further updates as necessary.
