Kankakee, Illinois – Kankakee County officials extended storm debris removal in Aroma Park areas, scheduling a second pickup round.

According to the Kankakee County Emergency Management Agency and Highway Department, cleanup operations will continue following storm damage reported last week in Aroma Park and Aroma Township.

Officials announced a second round of debris collection beginning Monday, March 30, and residents are asked to place eligible materials at the curb no later than Sunday, March 29.

EMA Director Becky Powell said crews are working to coordinate resources while dealing with ongoing weather conditions during the cleanup effort.

“We certainly understand the severity of the task-at-hand in regard to the cleanup situation, particularly including inclement weather,” Powell said. “At the same time, we are trying our very best to coordinate resources to ensure we can get as much cleaned up as possible in the area.”

County officials say all items placed for pickup must be sorted into four categories to allow crews to safely collect and process debris.

Those categories include:

White goods – larger appliances such as refrigerators, washers and dryers
E-waste – electronic devices and equipment
General construction debris – building materials and structural waste
Recyclable metals

Residents with questions about the debris removal process can contact the Kankakee County Highway Department at (815) 933-1731 or email [email protected].

Authorities also issued a reminder that scrappers can be arrested for trespassing if they enter private property to collect discarded materials.

The extended cleanup effort may affect local commuters, workers, and students traveling through Aroma Park and nearby rural roads as crews continue debris collection operations.
