Bourbonnais, IL – Families in Kankakee County can explore wildlife up close this June as a weekly nature program returns to Willowhaven Park, offering interactive learning for all ages.

According to the Bourbonnais Township Park District, “Native Nature Adventures” runs on Mondays throughout June, with sessions scheduled from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Willowhaven Park, located at 1451 N. 4000 E. Road. The four-week series begins June 1 and continues June 8, June 15, and June 22.

Each session focuses on a different group of animals, including insects, reptiles, birds, and mammals. Organizers say participants will learn how these animals find food, raise their young, and adapt to seasonal changes. The program includes hands-on activities, storytelling, and opportunities to explore real specimens.

The park district notes the program is designed to be both educational and engaging, encouraging participants to better understand local ecosystems through direct interaction and guided exploration.

The cost is $5 per person, per session, and all ages are welcome. Registration is required in advance through the park district’s online portal, with separate sign-ups available for each date.

The program is part of a broader effort to provide accessible outdoor education opportunities during the summer months, especially for families looking for low-cost, local activities.

Willowhaven Park, located just outside Bourbonnais near the Kankakee River area, serves as a natural setting for the series, offering a mix of wooded and open environments ideal for wildlife observation.

Spots may be limited, and early registration is encouraged.
