Joliet, IL – A man is dead following an early morning shooting in a commercial area along Colorado Avenue, prompting an ongoing investigation by Joliet police.
According to the Joliet Police Department, officers were dispatched around 1:51 a.m. Sunday after multiple gunshots were reported near Anthony’s Restaurant and Pub and a nearby Dollar Tree in the 2900 block of Colorado Avenue. When officers arrived, they located a 31-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound to the head in a parking lot.
The victim was transported by the Joliet Fire Department to Ascension Saint Joseph Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.
Police said officers secured the scene and conducted a canvass of the area. Detectives and crime scene investigators recovered multiple spent shell casings and a handgun at the location. Authorities also determined that two unoccupied vehicles and part of a nearby business, Rise Dispensary on Colorado Avenue, were struck by gunfire.
The investigation remains active as detectives work to determine the events leading up to the shooting and a possible motive. No suspects are currently in custody.
The identity of the victim, along with the official cause and manner of death, will be released by the Will County Coroner’s Office once confirmed.
