Lake Villa, IL – Residents in Lake Villa and across Lake County can start their Friday morning with coffee and a cause as local police partner with Dunkin’ for a statewide fundraiser benefiting Special Olympics Illinois.

According to the Lake Villa Police Department, the “Cop on a Rooftop” event will take place Friday from 5 a.m. to noon at the Dunkin’ located at 802 Tower Drive in Lake Villa. Officers will be on-site—and on the roof—encouraging community members to stop by, donate, and show support for athletes across Illinois.

The annual fundraiser, now in its 23rd year statewide, brings together law enforcement agencies and Dunkin’ locations to raise money for Special Olympics Illinois programs. Donations collected during the event help fund sports training, competitions, and inclusion initiatives for individuals with intellectual disabilities.

Community members are encouraged to drive through or visit the store, grab their morning coffee, and contribute any amount. Organizers note that every donation, regardless of size, directly supports athletes and helps expand access to year-round programming.

The Lake Villa event is part of a broader statewide effort, with similar fundraisers happening simultaneously at Dunkin’ locations throughout Illinois. Local officers will also be available to interact with residents, creating an opportunity for positive engagement while supporting a meaningful cause.

The event is expected to draw early commuters, families, and supporters from nearby communities, including Lindenhurst and Antioch, as well as the broader Chicago metro area.

Officials say the goal is not only to raise funds but also to strengthen community ties and awareness around inclusion and opportunity through sports.
