Montgomery, IL – A Montgomery man will spend the next five decades in prison after a Kane County judge handed down a 50-year sentence in a 2021 fatal shooting that left an Aurora man dead.

According to the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office, Judge David Kliment sentenced Ladarius A. Parker to 50 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections after a jury found him guilty of first-degree murder on March 3. Jurors also determined Parker personally discharged the firearm used in the killing.

The case stems from the early morning of May 2, 2021, when Parker was attending a party in the 1700 block of Stonegate Drive in Montgomery, located in Kane County within the Chicago metro area. Prosecutors said Parker shot and killed 30-year-old Christopher B. McMorris of Aurora while McMorris was sitting in a parked vehicle.

According to prosecutors, the investigation involved the Montgomery Police Department, Kane County Major Crimes Task Force, Kendall County Special Response Team, Illinois State Police Crime Lab, and the Kane County Coroner’s Office. Parker was later arrested on January 7, 2022, by the U.S. Marshals Service in Freeport.

Under Illinois law, Parker must serve the full 50-year sentence. Officials confirmed he will receive credit for 1,576 days already served in the Kane County jail.

Assistant State’s Attorney Bill Brandt said the sentence reflects the severity of the crime and acknowledged the role of witnesses who came forward during the investigation.
