Bryans Road, MD – A fatal motorcycle crash in Charles County is under investigation after a driver allegedly fled the scene on foot Sunday evening, leaving one man dead and a child injured.

According to Maryland State Police, the crash happened around 7:40 p.m. on Maryland Route 210 at Jenkins Lane. Troopers from the La Plata Barrack responded to reports of a collision involving a motorcycle and a 2013 Dodge Dart.

Investigators say the Dodge Dart entered the southbound lanes of Route 210 and crossed into the path of a Suzuki motorcycle. The motorcyclist, identified as Harry Washington III, 32, of Indian Head, was airlifted to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

A 9-year-old girl, believed to be Washington’s daughter and a passenger on the motorcycle, was also flown to a hospital with injuries. Her current condition has not been released.

Police say the driver of the Dodge Dart and a passenger initially fled the scene on foot. The passenger later returned and requested medical attention. He was identified as Jose Osmin Orellana Santamaria, 43, of White Plains, and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Authorities are actively searching for the driver and are asking for the public’s help. Anyone with information is urged to contact Sergeant Justin Zimmerman at 301-392-1200 or justin.zimmerman@maryland.gov.

The crash shut down lanes of Route 210 for nearly three hours. Maryland State Police continue to investigate the incident.
