Charleston, W.Va. – Snow is spreading across much of West Virginia this morning, creating slick roads and travel delays that could impact drivers through early Tuesday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 2 p.m. Tuesday for a large portion of the state, including Kanawha, Putnam, Cabell, Harrison, and Monongalia regions. Snowfall totals up to 2 inches are expected, though narrow bands could produce locally higher amounts in some areas.

Cities including Charleston, Parkersburg, Clarksburg, and Beckley are seeing changing conditions as bands of snow move through, quickly coating untreated roads. Bridges and overpasses are especially prone to icing, increasing the risk of accidents during the late morning commute.

Officials urge drivers to slow down, increase following distance, and check WV 511 for real-time road conditions. Visibility may drop suddenly in heavier snow bands, even as nearby areas see lighter precipitation.

Snow is expected to taper off by 2 p.m. Tuesday, but lingering slick spots could persist into the evening as temperatures remain near freezing.
