Kalamazoo, MI – A man was found fatally shot Tuesday afternoon inside an apartment in Oshtemo Township, prompting an active homicide investigation by the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a report of a gunshot at the Canterbury Apartments around 2:36 p.m. on Tuesday. Moments later, authorities located a male victim unresponsive inside one of the apartment units. Life-saving efforts were initiated on scene and continued as the man was transported to a local hospital, but officials confirmed he later died from his injuries.
A witness at the scene provided a description of an individual allegedly seen fleeing the area. Deputies, working with officers from neighboring jurisdictions, located a person matching that description, who was subsequently detained for questioning.
The identity of the victim has not been released, pending family notification.
Officials confirmed the scene remains active as detectives continue processing evidence and interviewing witnesses. Law enforcement has not confirmed if the detained individual is officially considered a suspect.
