Jasper County, MO – A Branson man was arrested Monday evening after deputies say he led law enforcement on a pursuit, abandoned his pickup truck, and was found hiding in brush with the help of a drone and police K-9.
According to the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were first notified at approximately 4 p.m. Monday, July 20, that the Joplin Police Department had been pursuing a white Chevrolet pickup truck with temporary tags, which was last seen traveling eastbound on Interstate 44.
At approximately 6 p.m., deputies responded to a disturbance in progress on Cimarron Road near Carthage after receiving reports that a man driving a white Chevrolet pickup had allegedly attempted to enter a residence by kicking in the front door.
Deputies located the truck, and a pursuit began. According to the sheriff’s office, the driver repeatedly drove erratically and left the roadway before deputies lost sight of the vehicle. A nearby property owner later reported seeing the truck drive behind the Church of Christ into a field near Fir Road and South Grand Avenue in Carthage.
Authorities found the truck abandoned in a tree line and established a perimeter. A drone and a Joplin Police Department K-9 were deployed, and the suspect was located hiding in nearby brush before being taken into custody without incident.
The suspect was identified as Shawn M. Orr, 40, of Branson.
According to the sheriff’s office, charges have been submitted to the Jasper County prosecutor for first-degree burglary, resisting arrest by fleeing (Valentine’s Law), and driving while intoxicated (DWI). Investigators said additional charges are expected as the investigation continues.
The allegations against Orr have been made by law enforcement, and the charges have not been proven in court.
