Detroit, MI – A 19-year-old Detroit man has been charged in connection with a fatal shooting that claimed the life of a 23-year-old Redford resident last month, according to the Detroit Police Department and the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office.
According to police, officers responded on Sunday, June 7, to a reported shooting at a residence in the 8700 block of Quincy Street in Detroit.
When officers arrived, they found Kemajai Darden, 23, of Redford, inside the home’s dining room suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency medical personnel responded and pronounced Darden dead at the scene.
Following an investigation by the Detroit Police Department, authorities arrested Mario Carl Melvin Neal, 19, of Detroit, on July 17.
According to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office, Neal allegedly produced a rifle and fired multiple shots at Darden before fleeing the scene.
Prosecutors have charged Neal with one count of first-degree murder and one count of felony firearm.
Neal remains presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law. The allegations against him have been made by law enforcement, and the charges have not been proven.
The Detroit Police Department credited its investigation with leading to the arrest and said the charging decision was made by the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office.
