Davenport, Iowa – Comfortable summer weather will continue across eastern Iowa and northwest Illinois through Friday before a rapid warmup sends temperatures and heat index values soaring by the end of the weekend.
According to the National Weather Service Quad Cities, below-normal temperatures will persist through Friday night, with afternoon highs reaching 75 to 80 degrees Thursday and 73 to 78 degrees Friday. Most of the region will remain dry, although a weak weather system could produce scattered showers late tonight into Friday mainly along and south of Highway 34.
Overnight lows will dip into the mid-50s to lower 60s tonight, followed by lows in the lower 60s Friday night. Rain chances remain limited, with only isolated showers expected in southern portions of the forecast area while the rest of eastern Iowa and northwest Illinois stays dry.
The warming trend begins Saturday as highs climb into the lower to middle 80s under mostly sunny skies. By Sunday, temperatures are forecast to reach 89 to 93 degrees, and the combination of heat and humidity will push heat index values to between 97 and 103 degrees, making it feel much hotter than the actual air temperature.
A 20% to 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms returns Sunday night as warmer, more humid air settles across the region.
