Iowa Traffic Alert: Over 270 Cyclists Expected on Jackson County Roads This Weekend

Jackson County, IA – Motorists in Jackson County are being advised to prepare for increased bicycle traffic this weekend as approximately 270 cyclists will be traveling through the area on Saturday and Sunday.

According to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, the cycling event begins Saturday, June 7 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., with riders entering from Clinton County. Cyclists will follow Highway 64 to Sabula before crossing the Mississippi River. This route is highlighted in green on provided maps.

The event continues Sunday, June 8 from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., with riders entering Jackson County through Preston and traveling through Spragueville and Springbrook. They will then head north on Highway 52 through Bellevue and into Dubuque County. Sunday’s route is marked in yellow.

Drivers are urged to be alert, reduce speed when approaching cyclists, and allow for safe passing distances during the event times. Signage and support vehicles may also be present along the route throughout the weekend.

Local officials emphasized the importance of patience and safety during the event, reminding all travelers to “share the road” and plan for minor travel delays in affected areas.

The sheriff’s office asks residents and visitors alike to exercise extra caution during these peak cycling hours to ensure a safe environment for everyone on the road.
