Iowa Officials Respond to Fire After Arkansas Welfare Call

Davenport, IA — A welfare check in Davenport on Tuesday led authorities to discover a fire inside a residence on 107th Avenue. Deputies from the Scott County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call from Arkansas, requesting a welfare check at the home. While en route, another call informed dispatchers that the house was on fire. The caller immediately hung up.

According to the Scott County Sheriff’s Office, deputies arrived to find a resident uninjured at the back of the property. After hearing fire alarms, they entered the home and discovered a fire in the dining room. Blue Grass and Walcott Fire Departments quickly contained the blaze.

The fire’s cause remains under investigation, with assistance from the Davenport Fire Department and a fire investigator. No other persons or animals were found inside the home.

Scott County MEDIC was dispatched, though no injuries were reported.
